How To: A Guide To Double Denim

One trend that I have been absolutely loving at the moment is the double denim or denim on denim trend. There is just something about denim that screams cool and casual. I know I have been wearing and looking to put together outfits that incorporate double denim (a post on my double denim outfit will be coming soon!) I love how you can play around with denim. The possibilities are endless. You can keep it casual or dress it up.

People may associate denim with the sometimes cringeworthy 90’s style, but I personally love how it’s making a comeback. Once what was considered a fashion faux pas is now being transformed to something cutting edge. When done right double denim can make your outfit look fashion forward with minimal effort required. I have listed below some tips for helping you when you next put together or decide to rock this trend.

Stick to different shades and/or break it up – having denim all the same shade can look boring and plain. One simple way where you can never go wrong is to play around with different shades. For example, pairing dark blue jeans with a lighter blue top. On this note it is important to use shades to flatter your figure. Darker shades create a slimmer effect while lighter shades hide those areas you don’t want to accentuate. However, I will contradict myself and say that sometimes the same wash of denim can actually look really chic. The trick is to add a block to break it up. The best way to do this is to add a shirt that is of a different material and colour. When wearing double denim it is important to keep in mind that you don’t want it to look too ‘the same’ or matching.

Keep accessories to a minimal – you don’t want to look like you tried too hard when wearing double denim. Keeping your accessories to a minimum is a good way to ensure that you don’t go overboard. Double denim is about looking effortless, so why ruin that by overloading unnecessary accessories?

Have fun with it! The beauty about double denim is that there aren’t too many ways to go wrong. And as they say you can wear anything if you wear it with confidence!
